Modern science looks only for what it calls evidence-based research, but according to holistic systems, the human is composed of interacting, multi-dimensional, subtle energy fields, which work on holographic principles, not measurable for the most part by current scientific instruments.
I’ll always remember my first encounter with kinesiology. I was going to high school in a little surf town called Cocoa Beach, on the east coast of Florida. I was playing a lot of tennis and surfing, and had some issues with my low back and with energy levels. One sweltering afternoon I was walking through the back streets, when I saw a wooden sign with the words ‘Chiropractor, Applied Kinesiology’. I entered the building, and was greeted by a robust youngish man wearing a white lab coat. I can’t remember his name, but he introduced himself as doctor. He invited me into his office, and I’ll never forget the walls, which were covered in reflex charts of many kinds. I had not been exposed to holistic medicine before, and it was like entering another dimension to see the vials of homeopathics, and nutritional supplements, and tools to adjust the spine with.
I filled out a patient form, and then the kinesiology examination began. He had me hold up my arm, and pushed down on it, to check if it was strong. He then rapidly scanned my body, touching my forehead, or having me place my fingers over my low back, over my liver area, on the right side, and all the organs. When I touched certain areas, when he pushed, my arm strength gave way, like a knife through butter. In other areas he touched, my arm stayed strong. As he was doing the testing, I felt within me that this was real!
There was subtle information being relayed, which was almost instantly displaying the actual condition and requirements of my system. The chiropractor placed small wedges under my hips, made some adjustments to my mid back, and then put slight pressure on parts of my skull, as I breathed. I left not only leaving the pains in my right pelvis and mid back behind, but also with a lightness to my being, as if some hidden positive force within myself had been set free.
That first experience with chiropractic and with kinesiology was to set a direction for the next 30 years of my life, as, soon after, I decided to become a chiropractor myself. I have now been in practice as a chiropractor, using applied and clinical kinesiology, for more than 25 years and I am still amazed at the incredible accuracy and truthfulness of kinesiology when performed correctly. The same findings that kinesiology gives are confirmed by other forms of biofeedback, from other practitioners working with Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and other holistic systems.
Modern science looks only for what it calls evidence-based research, but according to holistic systems, the human is composed of interacting, multi-dimensional, subtle energy fields, which work on holographic principles, not measurable for the most part by current scientific instruments. These energy fields convey information, like a bio-computer, and this information can be picked up using manual muscle testing or kinesiology.
The world would be a very different place today if biofeedback such as kinesiology was a basis for modern systems such as medicine, dentistry, architecture, and electronics.
Confused about all the different opinions about health issues? Hold up an arm, and press down, see if the arm goes weak, or stays strong under different influences—that’s kinesiology! As medical doctor, Dr. John Diamond titled his influential book in the 1980s, the body doesn’t lie!
Dr. Mark Abriel graduated from Life Chiropractic College, in Marietta, Georgia, USA. He completed the applied kinesiology certificate course, and then studied clinical kinesiology with its founder the late Dr. Alan Beardall. He is the director of Byron Bay Holistic Chiropractic.
