Many are looking to live their dream in life, but when it comes to the crunch, a peaceful mind is on top of their well-being wish list. If you want the clarity and peace of mind, here are some tips and supplements to help you get there.
Besides love and happiness, we all wish for peace –right?
We’re not talking about the ubiquitous Miss Universe answer: ‘World peace’. Of course we wish for that, but here we are talking about knowing peace inside our self: in our minds, in our hearts, bellies, feelings and actions, and in every aspect of our lives.
Have you ever been in an argument, lost contact with the person for a while, and then when you got back together, had a laugh, and apologised on both sides? Or really wanted something, finally got it, and—not long after—you are over it?
What never ceases to fascinate me is that stuff we care about passionately one minute, doesn’t matter so much the next.
But peace does—and the mindfulness it brings with it guides and empowers us with clarity. Clarity, intuition and insight help us know what we want longer term—our higher goals—so we can focus on them rather than distracting ourselves with brief amusements, and diffusing energy with lower goals. Besides, it helps us stay out of arguments.
So, how do we access peace of mind? How do we encourage mindfulness? You can probably see that feeling calm, clear, peaceful and empowered helps us dial into our intuitive wisdom, which naturally aligns itself with circumstances and opportunities that allow us to feel good, live our dreams, and connect with our purpose.
Overleaf I have listed five simple inner exercises you can use (not all at once) to help with mindfulness.
Even better news is that there are also natural herbal supplements which are known to aid mindfulness and therefore support your journey home to the intuitive iQ of your greater self.
It is no accident that the majority of the eight herbs I recommend below originate from India and China, both associated with a long history of mindfulness, meditation, yoga, martial arts, longevity, spiritual awakening, wisdom and well-being. The herbs are available as either separate herbs or as capsule supplements. Some supplements companies have combined many of these ingredients into highly effective synergistic combinations, taking the headache out of dosage and the higher cost of buying things separately.

Eight essential supplements for peace, clarity and mindfulness
Gotu Kola (Centella Asiatica) aka Brahmi Gotu Kola, Luei Gong Gen and Asiatic Pennywort
‘Brahmi’ translates as ‘energy of universal consciousness’. According to legend, it’s been taken since ancient times by yogis to assist in meditation. That makes it a rockstar herb when it comes to supporting mindfulness, clarity, tranquility, and calm. It is a renowned mental rejuvenative claimed to not only support healthy nervous system function, but significantly enhance mental performance.
In Ayurveda it is seen to be a powerful blood purifier and promotes lustrous and healthy hair. It’s said to be an excellent tonic for pitta, reduces excess kapha in the body, and calms vata in the mind, while its energy is cooling, and balances all doshas.
Ginkgo Biloba aka Maidenhair Tree
When I was studying Oriental therapy, I read an extended text just on ginkgo and its effects on restoring brain function. The test results from the studies conducted were astounding. Especially elderly subjects and others who had discernible deterioration in their brain function, experienced almost miraculous results, as ginkgo increased blood flow, especially to fine capillaries like those throughout the neo-cortex. Clarity, memory and focus improved, and in many cases, lost or impaired faculties were improved or restored.
Other circulatory benefits included healthier skin, sharper eyes, and better erections!!
Bacopa (Bacopa Monniera) aka Brahmi or Brahmi Bacopa, and Indian Coastal Waterhyssop
As with Brahmi Gotu Kola, this is the other of the two herbs mentioned in ancient Ayurvedic texts, in which ‘brahmi’ means ‘energy of universal consciousness’.
Bacopa has a bittersweet cooling effect, balancing all doshas, and is said to support the brain function, harmonise the nervous system, improve clarity, concentration, alertness, cognitive function, awareness and memory. It is also said to be a rejuvenative to the brain and nervous system.
Withania (Withania Somnifera) aka Ashwagandha or Indian Ginseng
This root is known to support the necessary concentration required for mindfulness practice, as well as helping learning and memory function, and reducing braincell degeneration. But it doesn’t end there. Besides reportedly being anti-malarial, it supports the body’s ability to cultivate and store strong vital energy throughout the day, and promotes restful sleep at night. Furthermore, it aids proper nourishment of muscles and bones, and supports rejuvenation and healthy functioning of the adrenals.
It is said that it maximises the body’s ability to avoid or withstand stress. It is known to balance vata and kapha, but may aggravate pitta, as it is heating.
Sacred Basil (Ocimum Tenuiflorum) aka Tulsi, Tulasi, Holy Basil or Ocimum Sanctum
This plant is sacred to Indian Hindus, and is often planted at the centre of the courtyard of Hindu houses. It is known to assist in harmonising stress, lifting spirits, reducing excess kapha, calming vata, and is regarded in Ayurveda as an ‘elixir of life’. There is evidence to suggest that it is an adaptogen capable of harmonising many physiological processes. Hindus believe it should only be taken for spiritual uplifting while honouring the spirit of the plant. ‘Tulasi’ in Sanskrit means ‘the incomparable one’.
Polygala Siberica (Radix Polygalae) aka Milkwort
The ancient name for this root is ‘The Will Strengthener’, and it is known for supporting a tranquil mind. Wonderful in itself. But check this out: I have encountered claims that it has the ability to connect kidney (sexual) energy, with heart (love) energy, thereby opening what the Taoists refer to as ‘the psychic channel’, which deepens our experience and feelings, aiding an opening of our awareness to love and joy.
It comes as no surprise then, that besides the additional claimed benefits such as relief from mental distress, easing forgetfulness, and countering insomnia, this medicine supposedly supports the process of spiritual awakening. Pungent, bitter and gently warming, it also dispels dampness.
Passion Flower (Passiflorae)
The flowers of the passion fruit vine have a long history of medicinal use, including by Saint Ignatius of Loloya, and currently by John of Brazil. They are known for their ability to calm and soothe mind and nerves, relieve nervousness and agitation, and treat hypertension. Used as a sedative to calm nerves during menopause.
Combined with hops, selenium and magnesium before bed to promote a restful calm sleep.
Helps relieve symptoms of stress whilst supporting resistance to stress. Supports the parasympathetic nervous system, and therefore supports tranquillity and a relaxed state of mind.

Five easy exercises for instant peace of mind, clarity and mindfulness
I meditated for 15 years before I discovered what it really was all about. I did it the hard way, pushing my thoughts around, trying to force peace of mind. In a flash it dawned on me; the mind is clear by its very nature. All my efforts to ‘clear my mind’ were actually agitating my thoughts. The more I fought thoughts, the louder they became. I was identified with the noise, not the underlying, ever-present stillness, which was patiently waiting to be discovered—or, more accurately, waiting to be remembered.
These five easy exercises bypass all this struggle. They take you straight to mindfulness and the luminescent brilliance of your true nature. Save yourself 15 years.
You can practise any or all of these just about anywhere: at home, alone or in groups, or try them at your desk, on public transport, and in a park. Just don’t drive or operate machinery!
- Close your eyes. Feel your clothes, or the sheets, on your skin. Feel the air. Notice the breath moving in and out without even trying. Allow yourself to wonder, without thinking, “Who is doing the breathing?”.Surrender the need to understand. Simply observe.
- Breathe into your heart centre. Breathe in love and joy. Notice yourself filling with light. Breathe out love, joy and appreciation. Notice the light shining in and out with every breath, until you can no longer tell whether it’s shining in or out.
- Keep your eyes open. Soften your gaze. Lose focus so you are not looking at any one thing. Surrender the need to name what you see. Know you are safe. Let your eyes drink in everything. Find the clarity in the blur, without trying, like eyes open under water, or like a waking dream.
- Pick a beautiful object. Look at it. Imagine it is the most lovely, amazing, incredible thing in the universe. Pour your loving awareness into it. Now pick a mundane or even ‘ugly’ object, and do the same. Be open. Marvel. Wonder about the saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.
- Close your eyes. Feel the aliveness and energy all around. Let this awareness pour into your body. Let it scan every part of you for tension. It knows where to go—let it. When you find tension, let mindful awareness pour into that part of you and feel the tingle as it transforms and releases the tensions and blocks. Feel the subtle tingling.
You can imagine how these simple practices may awaken your intuitive, higher self, and help you connect with your wisdom mind, which naturally and easily enjoys calm, clarity and peace from a higher perspective.
